In Partnership with Government of Sindh, CM COVID-19 Cell
Overview
Educast (Pvt.) Ltd. played a transformative role during the COVID-19 pandemic in Pakistan by initiating one of the country’s most extensive virtual healthcare response programs. Under the leadership of the Chief Minister of Sindh and in full coordination with the Government of Sindh’s COVID-19 Response Cell, Educast mobilized a global team of 450 eDoctors from 16 countries to deliver timely home-based care to COVID-positive patients across the province of Sindh.
Key Achievements (March 2020 – March 2022)
Patients Served: 500,000+ COVID-19 patients across Sindh
Physician Volunteers: 450 licensed diaspora eDoctors from 16 countries
Daily Outreach: Up to 8,000 calls/day during peak pandemic waves
Support Languages: Urdu, Sindhi, English, Punjabi, Pashto
Partner Entity: Government of Sindh, CM COVID-19 Cell
Service Mode: Real-time telephonic and video follow-ups, health monitoring, emotional support, referral coordination
Program Model
Educast’s eDoctor App enabled a real-time digital interface where diaspora physicians could log in from countries such as the USA, UK, Canada, UAE, KSA, Australia, Qatar, and Germany to contact patients, offer medical advice, and escalate cases where necessary.
How It Worked:
Daily patient data was fed into the app via integration with the Sindh Health Department.
Doctors were automatically assigned patients to call and follow up.
A clinical decision support system embedded WHO/CDC COVID-19 protocols.
Case escalation protocols triggered alerts to field teams and hospital units.
Comprehensive data reports submitted to the CM COVID Cell daily.
Training and International Recognition
Recognizing the program’s scale and significance, Stanford University School of Medicine came forward to provide technical training to all Educast eDoctors. Training focused on:
WHO & CDC COVID-19 clinical care protocols
Infection prevention and control
Mental health first aid and tele-counseling
This collaboration culminated in an international academic paper published jointly by Stanford and Educast on diaspora-led telehealth models in pandemic response—a pioneering case study from Pakistan.
Social Impact
Mental Health Support: Patients reported reduced isolation and anxiety.
Elderly Care: Elderly and high-risk patients received special monitoring.
Public Health Awareness: The program increased compliance with isolation guidelines and care practices.
A Replicable Model for Global Health Emergencies
The Educast COVID-19 intervention stands as a model of innovation, diaspora engagement, and digital resilience. The combination of a smart tech platform, trusted clinical workflows, and a highly qualified global volunteer network made it a scalable, cost-effective, and human-centered solution to public health crisis management.
Looking Forward
Educast is now leveraging its COVID infrastructure to:
Expand eDoctor home-care services for elderly and chronic disease patients
Support maternal and child health via telemedicine
Deploy the model in other fragile states (Afghanistan, Yemen, Sudan)
